This guide is the version we wish existed when we started stocking the line. It covers what each format actually is, what is different inside the figures, which one suits which age, and what we currently have on the shelf. Everything here is officially licensed Moose Toys product, shipped from the US.

What Goo Jit Zu actually is

Every Heroes of Goo Jit Zu figure is a soft outer skin filled with something. You stretch it, squash it, twist it, and it returns to shape. Moose Toys quotes stretch of up to three times the figure's size on the full-size Hero Packs, and in practice the appeal is less about the number and more about the fact that the toy survives being manhandled by a six-year-old for a year.

The filling is what varies between characters, and it is the single most useful thing to understand before buying. Some are packed with a thick gel. Some have a gritty, beaded filling the brand calls Super Scrunchy. Some are translucent with visible goo moving inside. Two figures that look almost identical in a photo can feel completely different in the hand, and kids absolutely notice.

Everything in the line is rated ages 4 and up, and everything contains small parts, so it is not suitable for children under 3.

Minis — the entry point at around $10

The Minis are 2.5-inch versions of the same idea. They are the cheapest way into the line, they fit in a pocket or a lunchbox, and they are the format that gets collected rather than played with as a single hero.

Two licensed sub-lines run in parallel. DC Minis cover Batman, Superman, Cyborg, The Flash and others. Marvel Minis cover Black Panther, Captain Marvel, Captain America and the rest of the Marvel roster. They are the same scale and the same construction, so they battle together fine — a detail that matters more to kids than it does to adults.

In stock now: DC Mini Cyborg at $9.95, DC Mini Batman, DC Minis Superman, Marvel Minis Captain Marvel and Marvel Minis Captain America, all at $10.95.

There is also a Marvel Minis random single, where the character is not identified on the outside. Worth knowing which you are buying: the named singles are for a child who wants a specific hero, the random pack is for a child who enjoys the surprise. Buying a random pack for a kid who specifically wanted Spider-Man is a bad afternoon.

Hero Packs — the full-size figures at around $19

Hero Packs are the flagship format and roughly four to five inches of figure. This is where the stretch is most satisfying, because there is simply more material to work with, and it is the format that survives being used as an actual action figure rather than a collectible.

We have the DC Batman Hero Pack and the DC Superman Hero Pack in stock, both $18.95.

If you are buying one toy rather than starting a collection, buy a Hero Pack. The Minis are better value per figure but they are small, and a child who has only ever held a Mini has not really experienced what the line does.

Water Blast — the one with a party trick

Water Blast is a Hero Pack variant with a working water feature. You fill the figure's head, squeeze, and it fires. Underneath the gimmick it is a normal Hero Pack with the Super Scrunchy beaded filling, so it works perfectly well dry.

Our current one is Pantaro Water Blast at $18.95 — the panther character in an icy blue colourway. This is a summer and bath-time toy as much as a shelf toy. If your child's play happens mostly indoors on a carpet, a standard Hero Pack is the calmer choice.

Goo Shifters — crush the core, change the goo

Goo Shifters are the most mechanically interesting variant. The figure is translucent with a visible core inside it. Crush the core and the goo transforms — the colour and the feel both change. It is a one-way reveal in the sense that the fun is in doing it, and it is the version that holds attention longest for kids who like taking things apart.

We have Goo Shifters Thrash, the shark character, at $18.95. The Goo Shifters wave has been retired, so what is on the shelf is what exists.

Versus Packs — two figures, hero and villain

A Minis Versus Pack is two 2.5-inch Minis in one box, one hero and one villain, sold as a matchup. At $15.95 it works out cheaper per figure than two singles, and it solves the problem of a child having one figure and nothing to fight.

The pairing is randomly assorted and not marked on the packaging — known matchups across the assortment include Blazagon versus Rock Jaw, Pantaro versus Scorpius and Thrash versus Tygor. If a specific pairing matters, message us and we will tell you what is physically on the shelf.

The bundle — best value in the line

The DC Minis 4-Pack with the Justice League jumbo colouring and activity book is $32.95 and is the one we recommend most often as a gift. Four Minis — Batman, Flash, Cyborg and a rare Superman — plus a proper activity book, which gives the quiet half hour after the toys have been stretched to exhaustion.

Four singles bought separately would run past $40 before the book. It is also the item we hold the most stock of, so it is the safest thing to order if you need it to actually arrive.

Quick comparison

Which one to buy

Ages 4 to 5, first Goo Jit Zu toy. A Hero Pack. Bigger, easier for small hands to stretch properly, and there is no gimmick to explain.

Ages 6 to 8, already knows the line. Minis, or the Versus Pack. This is the collecting age, and the appeal shifts from one hero to a roster.

A child who fidgets. Minis. They are pocket-sized, silent, and the Super Scrunchy filling gives a different tactile experience from a standard stress toy. Several of our customers buy these for exactly this reason rather than for the character.

Under $15. A single Mini at $9.95 to $10.95.

Around $20. A Hero Pack, or Water Blast if the child plays outdoors.

A proper gift. The DC Minis 4-Pack bundle at $32.95.

Frequently asked questions

Do Goo Jit Zu figures leak or dry out?

The goo is sealed inside the figure and is not intended to come out. A figure that has been cut or punctured will leak and cannot be repaired, which is the main reason the line is rated 4 and up rather than younger. Kept intact, they do not dry out — figures from several years ago still stretch normally.

How do I clean one, and what about lint?

Wipe with a damp cloth and mild soap, then air-dry. The slightly tacky skin picks up lint and pet hair; a strip of sticky tape lifts most of it off. Do not put them in the washing machine and do not submerge standard figures — Water Blast figures are the only ones designed to meet water, and those should be dried thoroughly after use.

What is the difference between the gel ones and the Super Scrunchy ones?

Gel-filled figures feel smooth and heavy and stretch in a slow, liquid way. Super Scrunchy figures are packed with a beaded filling and feel gritty and crunchy under the fingers, closer to a stress ball. Neither is better. Children usually have a strong preference once they have handled both, so if you are buying a second figure it is worth asking which the first one was.

Can Marvel Minis and DC Minis be played with together?

Yes. Both sub-lines are 2.5 inches and built identically, so they are the same scale. The licences are separate but the toys are not.

Are the Minis too small for a four-year-old?

They are rated 4 and up and are safe at that age, but a four-year-old will get more out of a Hero Pack. Small hands struggle to generate enough grip to stretch a 2.5-inch figure far enough for it to feel impressive.

Is this the real thing?

Everything we stock is officially licensed Moose Toys product. Goo Jit Zu is widely counterfeited, particularly on marketplace listings, and the fakes tear at the seams within days. If a listing elsewhere is dramatically cheaper than the figures here, that is usually why.

Which are hardest to find?

The retired waves. Goo Shifters is finished, and several of the Marvel Minis characters are no longer produced. When a retired figure sells out here we generally cannot restock it.

Where to start

If you want one recommendation and no reading: the DC Minis 4-Pack bundle for a gift, or a DC Batman Hero Pack for a first figure.

The full range is on our Heroes of Goo Jit Zu collection. Stock on the retired waves is genuinely limited and the counts above are what we physically hold. Everything ships in one business day, with free US shipping on qualifying orders.
